TAMURA SHIPPO New Workshop
田村七宝工芸新工房
明治16年より続く七宝焼の窯元工房の建て替え計画である。
地域で唯一の後継者である職人が、伝統を大切にしながら、新しい時代の伝統工芸や職人のあり方を模索している。その挑戦に応える場として、新たな工房を計画した。
敷地は道路側から建物の全景が見えにくい一方、通路を抜けた先の西側には田園風景が広がっている。歴史ある伝統工芸の営みと、この土地の豊かな環境の両方を感じられるよう、風景を切り取る額縁のような大きな窓を設けた。
七宝の制作は、窯や水を使う作業と絵付けの作業に大きく分かれる。その工程や人の動きに応じて、非対称の勾配天井を設け、空間にゆるやかな変化を与えた。シンプルでありながら、南北に抜けのある、居心地のよい工房となっている。
100年以上続く伝統工芸が次の世代へと受け継がれ、職人はもちろん、訪れる人々にとっても、ものづくりの風景が身近に感じられる場となることを願っている。

This project is the reconstruction of a cloisonné workshop established in 1883.
The client, the region’s only successor to the craft, is exploring new ways of carrying traditional craftsmanship into the future. The new workshop was planned as a place to support that challenge.
While the building is barely visible from the street, open rural scenery unfolds to the west beyond the approach. A large framed window was introduced to connect the workshop with both the surrounding landscape and the long tradition of cloisonné making.
The making process is broadly divided between work involving kilns and water, and the delicate process of painting. In response, the sloped ceiling shifts gently in angle, creating subtle variation within a simple and comfortable space.
It is hoped that this workshop will help carry the craft into the next generation, while allowing both artisans and visitors to feel the vitality of making.
